The Agent Raul Gonzalez Officer Safety Act establishes new criminal penalties for evading arrest or detention while operating a motor vehicle within 100 miles of the U.S. border. Offenders may face imprisonment, fines, or both, with increased penalties for serious bodily injury or death resulting from the offense. Additionally, the Act makes individuals convicted of such offenses inadmissible and deportable under immigration law, and ineligible for relief under immigration laws, including asylum. The Attorney General is required to submit an annual report detailing violations and penalties related to this Act.1
