HB1207

Requiring Election Workers to be US Citizens

Date of Vote: February 22, 2024

Chamber of Origin: House

This bill proposes several changes to Georgia's election laws. It requires that any person employed or retained by a county election superintendent to conduct election duties must be a U.S. citizen. It allows for the reopening of candidate qualifying if no one qualifies during the initial period. It requires election superintendents to provide ballot proofs to candidates for review prior to finalizing the ballots, and allows superintendents to make changes based on candidate feedback. The bill also grants poll watchers broader access and observation rights at various election locations. Additionally, it prohibits the use or threat of violence that would prevent election officials or poll watchers from carrying out their duties. Overall, the bill aims to modify various aspects of Georgia's election procedures and oversight.1
